October 11th - 14th

It was another wonderful week in kindergarten!

We continue to look closely and notice the seasonal changes happening around us and wonder about the story that nature is telling us right now.  Some of our wonders were:
  • Why are there some green leaves on the ground...why didn't they change colour before they fell off the tree?
  • What is this white stuff in the pinecone?
  • How come some of these pine needles are so brown?
  • What is this green stuff on the tree trunk?
  • Is this sticky goo sap?

This week we worked on noticing different patterns in our environment. Inside the school, students identified various patterns such as the stripes on the hallway floor, the up-down positioning of the coat hooks, the spacing on our classroom shelves and even the patterns on the fish in the Learning Commons!  While exploring in our Learning Grounds outside, students found lots of patterns in nature such as the veins on a leaf, bumps on a stick, the leaves on a branch and the scales on a pinecone.

Learning Outcome:
- Children identify and create repeating patterns

I Can:
- Identify and create a repeating pattern

Ask your child:
- Can you show me an example of a pattern with 2 parts?
- What does 'repeat' mean?
- Can you find a pattern in your house or yard?
