January 16th - 19th

! Happy Lunar New Year !

It was another wonderful week in Kindergarten!
This week the T/Th group was lucky to have our amazing Learning Leader and grade 6 teacher - Mrs. Gordon - come work on a math problem with us. The poor M/W class got stuck doing it with me! 😂

Learning Intention:  Children interpret...
- compositions of quantities within 10
- quantity can be arranged in various ways
- a quantity remains the same no matter how the objects are grouped/arranged

I can:
- identify a quantity in various groups or arrangements
- compose quantities within 10
- recognize various ways to make 10

The Math Story Hook...
The Fairytale King wants us to build him some new castle towers. He has enough materials for 10 storeys/levels. He gives us some rules to follow for making the towers: Rule #1 - We must use ALL of the materials. Rule #2 -Towers can NOT be the same height. The Fairytale King wants us to build as many different tower arrangements as possible!

Students were given 10 blocks and the choice to either work with a partner or independently, to try building different arrangements of towers.

Here are the solutions the classes came up with...

TG decided that he wanted to keep finding solutions so he
continued to work on this problem through centre time!

!!! Clay For Kids !!!

The students LOVED working with clay this week! We learned all about where it comes from, what it is made of and how it gets fired in a giant kiln. We will have to wait 3 weeks for our masterpieces to be ready to share!
