Learning Intention:
- students explore size through direct comparison

I Can:
- identify measurable attributes of familiar objects to which size may refer
- compare the length of two objects directly
- describe the size of an object in relation to another object using comparative language
- describe the size of an object in relation to a purpose or need using comparative language

Students were presented with a variety of objects and were asked to consider how the items were similar and different from each other and what we could do with them. Some of their responses were:
  • "Some of these things come from nature and some don't."
  • "There are flat things and not flat things."
  • "They are made from different materials."
  •  "We could sort them...like all the coloured things could go together."
  • "We could use all of these things to build something!"
  • "They are all different sizes."
Students were then invited to pick an object from the carpet to use as their measuring tool. Next we talked about important things to remember when we are measuring like making sure that we measure objects from the same starting point in order to make it a fair measurement. Then students began partnering up to practice their measuring skills and compare objects. We used words like longer, shorter, same and equal, while comparing.  Great job Kinder Kiddos!
